Apple products are growing in popularity across Kenya. According to reports, the brand cannot keep up with the consumer demand for the device. According to figures from mobile operators as well as resellers, the demand for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is more than Apple can provide.

According to Capital FM, 1000 units were ordered; however only 700 had arrived in Kenya. 70 percent of these units went directly to mobile service provider Safaricom. The rest of the units were split between other operators.

According to Michelle Abuya, Business Development Manager at Salute iWorld: “Authorised Apple resellers only got 7 percent of what the country ordered.”

According to Abuya, Salute iWorld officially started selling the new iPhones last week and most of its stock was reserved by customers in advance of the release. Safaricom remains the largest reseller of iPhones with 120,000 subscribers owning one, Airtel Kenya selling 5,000 and Orange Kenya, 2,000.
