Sometimes we do things in the wrong order. Back in March I wrote about how to how to create a blog and attract new prospects. Since then I have been encouraging marketers to read that post for ideas, tools and resources to help them start a blog. However before you worry about ‘how’ it’s always important to consider ‘why’. Do you want to know why you need a business blog? Let’s get back to basics and address why a business blog is the foundation for your social media marketing strategy.
Your business blog is how you pay it forward. It’s your chance to offer your target audience something that will help them solve a problem or improve their life. You are an expert in your field and you have a lot to offer. The kind of things you talk about everyday to your colleagues, clients and suppliers are the basis for your most successful blog posts.
There are dozens of reasons you need a business blog, but ultimately it is to connect with your target market and customers. They are looking for exactly what you offer right now.
Sure you can connect with them through Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. However your blog is your own property. You have total control over the content and it serves as a hub to link all of your content and social networks together. In addition your blog will humanize your brand.
Social media is a great way to communicate with your audience and share content. But at the core of the most successful social media marketing strategies is a blog worth reading, sharing and revisiting.
Another thing to remember is that it’s OK (just not necessarily ideal) to have a website with no blog and to start a blog using a free blogging platform. Regardless of your web presence or social media profiles, your blog will compliment and enhance your digital marketing strategy.

If you could compare blogging platforms to social networks WordPress would be the Facebook. It’s very popular and has more plugins to enhance your blogging experience than you could poke a stick at.Tumblr
More than just a blogging platform Tumblr is actually a very popular social network in itself. With that in mind it is a great way to build an audience and it is very easy for your visitors to share your content.
